Centre in pink dress is AGNES MUSABYIMANA, one of our registered children. Her slight smile tells us that, despite the hardships and incredibly difficult living conditions, children tend to develop a resilience and simplicity that keeps hope alive. Her mother (2nd right, holding her little girl) has eight children and only Agnes and one other are in school. The rest dropped out before their 7th year in school. She has a strong and determined spirit. Having been abandoned by her husband several years ago, its impossible to understand how she has managed to keep her children sustained without a job or stable business! She does casual labor like digging for others to make ends meet. She needs to be empowered with a strong income generating project for the sustainability of her family.
Agnes is 11years but is only in P3(3rd year in school, excluding nursery level). At that age she ought to be atleast in P6 but she started late and has been in and out of school for obvious reasons related to poverty.
However, its not too late for her because we believe that HOPE NEVER RUNS DRY!
We are determined to change her story, working in partnership with her family and our partners. Agnes can be developed into a successful and God-fearing leader! She doesn't have a sponsor yet but we hope she gets soon.
You may also want to know that the little, smiling boy (2nd left) is Samuel Ihorihoze, the youngest child in our program. He is not part of Agnes's family but he walked around with us on our visits and was so eager to join the family photo that we just couldnt stop him. He is brilliant, active and jolly around his friends....and thats what family is all about!
