YOUTH EMPOWERMENT JOURNEY

 Today Uganda celebrated international youth day under the theme "Youth engagement for global action". For the last 5 years FALCO has been engaging with youth to empower them in the areas of education, entrepreneurship, leadership training, Christian discipleship and life skills.

 Along the way we have been blest to partner with organizations that are experts in the field of youth development particularly #SoarAway, led by Megga Nalutaaya and Kyusa Uganda, led by Noeline Kirabo. To commemorate this day, we take you through a pictorial journey of our engagements. Enjoy.

 

 

REFRESHING THE MIND DURING LOCKDOWN

As we await the resumption of schools here, we decided that our children will not stay idle for all this time. So we designed a small group study program where supported children get assistance in terms of reading materials, revision exercises and some bit of computer basics for the older children.

We've hired a teacher to assist in some areas to help the children reminded of what they studied. This program is carried on both from the homes of the children and some groups come to office.

We are grateful for the volunteers that are giving their time to help out especially going to homes to assist the children.

We are using this method because for now large gatherings are still prohibited.

Together in crisis

To stand together as one human family and minimize injustice and inequality is a most noble thing to do.
We greatly appreciate our partners who made it possible for us to do this agriculture project and were able to feed our supported families during the period of lockdown due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

Together we shall make a big difference!

TRANSFORMATION OF FAMILIES

Erina Nyirahafasha was an innocent 6 year old who had just lost her mum and was staying with her step mum and two siblings. The family later grew to 6 siblings. She wasn't ready for the fierce storms that life would throw at her at a young age. However, God the Father knew her. We are grateful for the grace to walk with this family to this point when Erina is in S2 and hoping to pursue a career in Nursing. They recently received their goat from the project. We continue to support families with their small businesses and the children with home study as we are still in lock down.

Here in Uganda the lock down to prevent the spread of Covid 19 still stands. We are hoping that the government may relax the restrictions slightly next week.
As the stocks of food continue to decrease in most families, FALCO was enabled by you our friends to reach out with some food relief and soap to all our supported families.THANK YOU SO MUCH!

It may take a few more weeks before peaple are fully back to work, so the need is still on. Lets continue to join hands and support our children and their families in this hard time.

We hope to do another round of distributions starting next week.

LETS DISEMPOWER THE VIRUS!

The global pandemic of COVID-19 is affecting the world and changing the way we live. Here in Uganda, 33 cases have so far been recorded as of today. We understand there are many more in Sweden, just hoping that you, our friends, remain safe.

Here, the government has ordered drastic measures to limit the spread of the virus like closure of schools and churches, suspension of all public transport including 'boda boda' motor cycles, buses etc. They are thinking of limiting movements even more.

As you may imagine, this is potentially a big crisis for most rural families who depend on daily work to get food and other necessities. Already, some of the care givers/parents of our children cant work since they don't have means of traveling to distant places to buy and sell commodities in the market.

We have decided to intervene with some relief for the families as quickly as possible before our movements are further restricted. We want to support each family with 300 Kr worth of soap, food and other essential items that can last them at least two weeks. As seen in the pics, we have already started to distribute a few items.

This is to request your contribution in this urgent move to save our families from a potential food crisis and extreme hunger. Earlier, we had thought of boosting the goat project, but this will be postponed until we have gone through this crisis.

TRANSFORMATION (PART 2)

Our underlying goal in all we do with the beneficiary families is to support them with the tools they need to live empowered and dignified lives. One of the programs through which we are doing that is the GOAT DISTRIBUTION PROJECT. Domestic animals are a major source of wealth in rural areas.
Through the goat rotation project, 13 families have so far received a goat. In the picture, the Mother of Miriam Zihaawe stands with hers which has delivered twins!
 So she gets two goats and the mother will go to another family.

However, because it takes a long time for one to rotate through the families, we have started a fundraising campaign to buy a goat for each of the 19 families that haven't yet got one.
All this is part of the efforts to fight poverty which is responsible for much of the problems and limitations the children face.

Each mature goat costs 500 SEK
